Woven Pathways
Our show, Woven Pathways, expresses the interconnection of everyone’s lives. Every day, we continue forging our own pathways but we don’t do this alone. We rely on the people around us to make our way through the world. While being fully independent people, no matter what, we always need to depend on our communities. Through the process of reliance, our journeys become intertwined, each going in a different direction but always connecting at some point.
Our
Water Protectors Piece
Water is sacred and integral to every aspect of our lives. It does not just have to do with physically surviving. It represents a deeper, multi-generational issue of those in power stripping away resources from Native lands and people. We were inspired by the book, “We Are Water Protectors” by Carole Lindstrom as an example to show how water plays an instrumental role in our lives. Despite fresh waters being invaded by the Dakota pipeline, local communities are rising up to take a stand. the removal of water resources unites people to work as one and to fight against injustice. water is life. Water is politics. Water is community. Water connects us all.
Water is life.
Water is politics.
Water is community.
Water connects us all.

We Are Water Protectors was written in response to the Dakota access pipeline protests. It influenced our main piece, Water Protectors. The snake representing the Dakota pipeline in the book is represented in our retelling by the dancers in black. Using a children’s book opens a conversation with all ages about how water is important in everyone’s lives. The story is of an Ojibwe girl who fights to protect the water supply of her people against an oil pipeline.
CLUB VERDE
Buena Vista Horace Mann K-8
Club Verde was established just this year, founded by Inez Vara (1st-grade teacher) and Audelia Rodriguez De Martinez (Special Day Class k-2nd grade). The Club is taught in English and Spanish. The BVHM Club Verde’s mission is to expand educational awareness campaigns among students and educate our school community about creating a greener place to learn. As well as, advocating for greener decisions among their facilities and working together to design and implement projects to leave a lasting impact on their school and local community. Promoting behavior change by inspiring others to contribute to helping improve their school’s environmental footprint is important to Club Verde.
The Lowell Dance Company is looking at ways to give back and make change. Art and connection can make that change. For that reason, we will be donating ten percent of proceeds from our Spring Showcase, Woven Pathways, to Buena Vista Horace Mann. That means for every ten tickets bought, the cost of one ticket will be donated. We hope our main piece, Water Protectors, and the full show can make an impact further than our dancers can reach themselves.
